Accounting Technician

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Formations Accounting Technician serves as an entry-level position in the field of accounting, providing foundational experience and snapshot for a career in accounting/finance. This position reports to the Controller and is responsible for managing the company’s Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes. The role requires maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring financial information flows smoothly and supports broader business objectives. The perfect candidate will have previous working experience in detail oriented and data entry related roles. This opportunity allows the individual to enhance their accounting skills within a collaborative team setting, fostering a positive corporate environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (fundamental job duties):

  • Enter data into accounting systems.
  • Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks.
  • Perform calculations using spreadsheets and other software tools.
  • Organize and maintain financial records.
  • Identify and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies.
  • Carry out general administrative tasks and prepare month-end reports as required.
  • Possess a basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Adhere to established standards, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Analyze inventory data.
  • Engage in continuing education to keep up with current accounting practices and methods.
  • Work with various management levels to understand business needs and objectives.
  • Support the Controller in preparing annual budgets and monthly financial reports.

  • Discount Maximization – Capturing as many early discount payments
  • Consistency – Timely entry of deposits and application of payments on a Daily basis

  • In office environment- This position is located at our Edmonton Shared Services location in a professional office environment downtown Edmonton with accommodating underground parking.

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of working experience in data entry or AP/AR related roles
  • Completion of Bachelor of Commerce program specialized in Accounting/Finance or related.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills and able to use Excel functions.
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and able to develop relationships with various levels of management.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and the flexibility to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
