Formations Sustainability Commitment

Canadian Made. Canadian Manufactured. Canadian Run.

Canadian Made. Canadian Manufactured. Canadian Run.

At Formations, sustainability starts close to home.

Canadian made. Canadian manufactured. Canadian run.

As a Canadian-owned and operated distribution, design and doors organization, we are proud to support Canadian manufacturing, Canadian jobs and Canadian supply chains. Through our Formations and Multiwood operations, we bring together distribution, design expertise and manufacturing capabilities to deliver high-performance surfacing and cabinetry solutions to customers across Canada.

Keeping more of our business close to home helps us build stronger relationships, support local communities and create greater visibility throughout our supply chain. It also allows us to work more closely with our manufacturing and supplier partners to make informed decisions around materials, performance, efficiency and responsible sourcing.

Sustainability Starts with How We Operate

We recognize that sustainability is an ongoing responsibility that extends across our products, operations, supply chain and the communities we serve.

Our approach focuses on:

  • Canadian manufacturing and supply
  • Responsible material selection
  • Product durability and long-term performance
  • Resource and energy efficiency
  • Waste reduction
  • Efficient distribution
  • Strong supplier partnerships
  • Continuous improvement

We believe that responsible business practices and exceptional product performance can work together. By offering durable materials and cabinetry solutions designed to perform over time, we can help reduce premature replacement and the resources associated with it.

Supporting Canadian Manufacturing

Canadian manufacturing is an important part of who we are.

Our manufacturing operations allow us to produce cabinetry solutions closer to the customers and markets we serve, while maintaining greater control over quality, production and service.

Being close to our customers also helps reduce unnecessary complexity in the supply chain and provides opportunities to respond more efficiently to market needs.

We are proud to support Canadian manufacturing and the people, skills and communities behind it.

Responsible Material Choices

The materials we specify, manufacture and distribute have an important role to play in the overall environmental impact of a project.

Formations works with leading material manufacturers and suppliers that continue to invest in recycled content, renewable resources, responsible sourcing, energy efficiency and improved manufacturing processes.

Where credible sustainability certifications, environmental product information or recycled-content data are available, we work to make this information accessible to architects, designers, millworkers, cabinet manufacturers and other customers.

Our goal is to help customers make informed decisions based on performance, design, durability and responsible material selection.

Built for Long-Term Performance

We believe one of the most meaningful contributions a product can make to sustainability is its ability to last.

Durable surfaces, cabinet doors and components that perform over the long term can help reduce the need for premature replacement, minimizing the consumption of additional materials, energy, transportation and installation resources.

Our philosophy is simple:

Design beautifully. Build responsibly. Make it last.

Reducing Waste and Improving Efficiency

Our sustainability efforts also extend to how we operate our business.

Across our distribution and manufacturing operations, we continue to look for opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary waste, including:

  • Better inventory management
  • Reducing aged and obsolete inventory
  • Improving material utilization
  • Reducing unnecessary packaging and printed materials
  • Increasing the use of digital resources
  • Improving transportation and distribution efficiency
  • Evaluating opportunities to reduce energy consumption
  • Working with suppliers to identify more efficient solutions

Small improvements across our operations can create meaningful results over time.

A Canadian Supply Chain Approach

Our Canadian footprint provides an opportunity to build strong, collaborative relationships throughout our supply chain.

From manufacturing and distribution to architects, designers, millworkers and cabinet manufacturers, we work with customers and partners across Canada to bring high-performance materials and cabinetry solutions to the market.

We believe that maintaining strong Canadian capabilities creates value beyond the products themselves. It supports Canadian employment, skills development, local communities and a more connected supply chain.

Looking at the Full Product Lifecycle

We recognize that sustainability extends beyond the point where a product leaves our facility.

A complete view considers the lifecycle of a product—from raw material sourcing and manufacturing through distribution, installation, use and eventual end-of-life.

While some stages of this lifecycle are controlled by our manufacturing and supply partners, Formations can contribute by providing better product information, promoting durable solutions and helping customers select materials appropriate for their intended application.

Where reliable lifecycle, environmental or sustainability information is available from our suppliers, we will continue to incorporate that information into our product knowledge and specification resources.

Continuous Improvement

Sustainability is not a one-time initiative. It is an ongoing commitment to improving how we operate and how we serve our customers.

As new technologies, materials, manufacturing practices and sustainability standards emerge, Formations will continue to evaluate opportunities to improve our environmental performance and provide more responsible solutions to the Canadian marketplace.

Our Commitment

Canadian Made. Canadian Manufactured. Canadian Run.

Proven Performance. Responsible Choices. Built for the Long Term.

At Formations, we believe sustainability is about making better decisions today while building a stronger business and a better future for tomorrow.

We are proud to be Canadian, proud to manufacture in Canada, and proud to support the people, businesses and communities that make our industry strong.
