Manufacturing Lead Hand

PRIMARY PURPOSE: As the Manufacturing Lead Hand your primary responsibility will be to oversee the efficient cabinet door manufacturing operations, including scheduling orders, preparing production runs, providing training and motivation to staff and performing routine machine maintenance to maximize output. In this role, it is required that the individual report to the Production Supervisor. Manufacturing Lead Hand will be required to operate machines as needed, these machines include HPL Press, Panel saw and Edge Banders. Manufacturing Lead Hand will drive improvement by supporting and coaching the manufacturing team to meet their goals and ensuring proper resources are in place for the team to be successful. To ensure top quality products, routine checks and proper machine setup will be of importance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (fundamental job duties):

  • Understand and follow all corporate safety policies and procedures, including PPE requirements
  • Understand department and company goals, motivating a team towards continuous improvement
  • Learn and master all processes/equipment within assigned department (program, run, maintain)
  • Report to Manufacturing Supervisor directly
  • Read technical paperwork and drawings to interpret specifications and machining parameters
  • Utilize quick, logical decision making to resolve production and scheduling issues
  • Perform quality checks of inbound materials and final products – maintain and report on QC data
  • Liaise between production staff, sales and management as required to meet order demands
  • Plan material requirements, and perform inventory counts
  • Ensure production department is organized and clean for safe/efficient work
  • Provide continuous training/coaching – strong focus on safety, quality and efficiency
  • Maintain forklift certification to assist with material transport and machine loading

QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of 1 years of experience with advanced machine operating skills of Saws/Edge Banders with a mechanical aptitude to perform maintenance required
  • Knowledge in the Wood-Working production industry
  • A minimum of 1 year of proven supervisory experience leading and motivating a team of operators in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Forklift Certification is required
  • Strong ability to problem solve with strategic, logical decision making
  • Able to accurately read measurements in imperial and metric (tape measure to 0.5mm, calipers to 0.1mm)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and information
  • Basic arithmetic
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly
